Why we switched from organic honey to pure unfiltered honey

For years, we've been sourcing organic honey not knowing that it isn't certified organic by the USDA. The USDA is the United State's organic certifying body. According to their standards, honey cannot be produced and be certified as organic. While they don't certify honey as organic, they recognize other countries organic certifications and allow them to be stated on products sold in the US. 

What this means is that all organic honey sold in the United States comes from other countries, primarily Brazil. Honey is one of the most adulterated ingredients on the market, and trusting another country with the integrity of a food like honey is a risk. It also means we are outsourcing more of our food production overseas rather than sourcing as local as possible. 

Given this insight into the honey market, we decided to switch to an unfiltered honey that comes from apiaries across the Northeast United States. This honey is domestic and guaranteed to be 100% pure. It has a distinct flavor that separates it from the clover honey we use in our other granolas. 

While we've changed our honey, we've kept our oats USDA certified organic. They are sourced from the Midwest United States and are grown without any chemicals or pesticides.
